Paul Smith’s College announces new faculty
Paul Smith’s College will kick off the fall semester with seven new faculty members when classes begin Sept. 6.
“The start of the semester at Paul Smith’s is always an exciting time,” said Nicholas Hunt-Bull, provost of Paul Smith’s College. “Having such an exceptional group of new teacher-scholars joining us shows that, even in challenging times, the college is moving forward, hiring great new people and bringing new energy to the campus and the region.”
The new faculty members carry with them a wealth of expertise from a variety of disciplines:
– Joshua Boykin, assistant professor of Chemistry, is just completing a doctorate in Chemistry from Clark University in Worchester, Mass. He is a teacher/scholar who is eager to start hiking in the Adirondacks.
– Kenneth Cohen, associate professor of Recreation and Park Management, earned a doctorate in Conservation Social Sciences/Resource Recreation and Tourism from the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho. He comes to Paul Smith’s after teaching at Central Washington University, where he also directed the International Sustainable Development Institute.
– Patrick Hiesl, associate professor of Forestry, earned a doctorate in Forest Resources from the University of Maine in Orono, Maine. Originally from Germany, Hiesl has practical forestry experience from Europe, North America and Australasia. His teaching will focus on Forestry Operations at Paul Smith’s.
– Glenn McClure, instructor in the Environment and Society department, earned a master’s in Multicultural Education from SUNY Geneseo in Geneseo, N.Y. He comes to Paul Smith’s from SUNY Geneseo, where he has won a number of teaching awards. He is a well-known composer who has worked with the local Northern Lights Choir and a number of other groups.
– Justin Waskiewicz, assistant professor of Forestry, also earned a doctorate in Forest Resources from the University of Maine. He comes to Paul Smith’s College from the University of Vermont. His teaching will focus on silviculture.
– Marlyse Waskiewicz, instructor in the Culinary Management department, earned a bachelor’s in Biology from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Ariz., and an associate in Culinary Arts from Eastern Maine Community College in Bangor, Maine. She is an accomplished baker, working most recently at Mirabelles Bakery in Burlington, Vt.
– James Wilson, assistant professor of Entrepreneurship and Small Business, is completing a doctorate in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix. He has extensive business experience as an entrepreneur and a member of the biotechnology industry.
