Student Engagement

Dear Family Member,

Family Weekend is fast approaching and I would like to extend a personal invitation to attend on September 27th-29th, 2024. There are wonderful things happening at PSC, and we are excited for you to come and find out what a day in the life of your student is all about. For many of you, this will be your first Family Weekend. This is an opportunity to visit with your student and spend time with them in their new environment. Therefore, all events and activities are optional, and you can pick and choose what you want to do! 🙂 We have lots of events planned for this exciting weekend on campus and at the VIC, but you also can take advantage of the opportunities that are happening in the area.

****Please note that the schedule is subject to change. There will be a final schedule available at registration.

You may have a meal in the Moorehouse Dining Hall or you may choose to have a meal at one of the restaurants in either Saranac Lake or Lake Placid (reservations are recommended for off-campus restaurants).

We are having a cookie contest!!! You may compete in the cookie contest by bringing your own  homemade cookies and it will be judged by the PSC students!!!  Prizes will be awarded! Also, bring your recipe if you would like to share it with others!  Just drop everything off at registration. Please make sure you include your name and cell number on your cookies so that we know who they belong to!  **Please bring in containers that you don’t need back in case you aren’t at the judging (and snacking by students afterwards!).

Family Weekend 2024 Schedule

 Friday, September 27th

8:30am-4pm…The Mercantile (formally the bookstore) open, JWSC 1st floor.

All Day…Visitors Interpretive Center open (VIC), Trails open from Dawn to Dusk– Entrance is approx. 1 1/2 miles from PSC on Rt. 30.

12pm-9pm…Corn maze tours, Tuckers’ Farm (mention you are a PSC person for a discount! Tour the corn maze after dark– bring your own flashlight) Bonfire with S’mores after dark. Enter corn maize before 9pm. They take cash only.

3pm-6pm…Registration, Student Center Lobby.

4:30pm-6pm…Dinner, Moorehouse Dining Hall (Tickets can be purchased at the door, PSC students with meal plan are free).

5pm…Bonfire and s’mores, Fire Pit by the Lake, Sponsored by PSC Pride.

6pm… Parent’s Welcome/Reception, Desserts created by Baking Department Students, St. Regis. Meet with PSC Senior Cabinet, faculty and staff.

6pm-8pm…Bonfire at the horse barn, Sponsored by the Draft Horse Club.

6pm-10pm…Rockwall open, Buxton. Pizza will be available. Sponsored by Athletics and Student Engagement.

6:30pm… E-sports lab open.

7pm… Bingo! Morehouse Dining Hall, FREE!!

7:30pm… Burning Leaves Hockey tournament in Saranac Lake Civic Center. PSC students free, other tickets are $10 for the whole weekend.

7:30pm… Paranormal investigation of Clinton Hall, Sponsored by ADK Supernatural Club.

7:30pm-9:30pm…Bat Walk at the VIC, Alum Oto Tomaszewski leading.

 

Saturday, September 28th

All Day…NYS Free Fishing Days!!! Fish without having to have a have fishing license. Today is National Hunting and Fishing Day.

All Day…Visitors Interpretive Center open (VIC), Trails open from Dawn to Dusk– Entrance is approx. 1 1/2 miles from PSC on Rt. 30.

8am-11am…Breakfast, Morehouse Dining Hall, (Tickets may be purchased at door-PSC students are free with their meal plan).

9am-11am…Registration, JWSC Lobby.

9am-1pm…Saranac Lake Farmer’s Market, Riverside Park.

10am…Cutting Board making with Professor Deb Naybor, PSC Maker’s Space (facilities building). Space is limited so arrive early!

10:30am-1:30pm- Woodsmen’s Team Demo, Great Lawn.

11am-1pm…Wagon Rides with the Draft Horses. Meet in front of the Student Center. Sponsored by the Draft Horse Club.

11am-1:30pm…Brunch, Morehouse Dining Hall, (Tickets may be purchased at door, PSC students with meal plan are free!).

11am-3pm…Pontoon Boat Rides, Meet by the dock by the Student Center.

11:30am…Cookie contest judging, Student Center Lobby, Prizes will be awarded!!! Drop off your cookies at registration.

12pm-6pm… Oktupperfest in Tupper Lake.www.tupperlake.com.

12pm-7pm…Bowling/Bowling Tournament if interested at Romano’s in Saranac Lake- Regular Bowling, PSC Students will be free with student id. Sponsored by Student Engagement.  There will be prizes for the top 3 bowlers that day!!

2pm…Birding walk with The Wildlife Society. The club officers will lead a walk, teach how to identify some local birds, etc.  Meet at Freer. Will have to drive to the walk-location as it’s off-campus. Donation to the club is appreciated but not required.

4:30pm-6pm…Dinner (tickets may be purchased at Morehouse Dining Hall or go on-your-own to town).

6pm-9pm…Live Music at the Pickled Pig: Margarita Mike Band, Lake Placid.

6:30pm…Casino Night, Morehouse Dining Hall.

7pm…Blessid Dirt and Jeffrey Wanzer Dupre Concert at BLUSEED Studios in Saranac Lake.

7pm-8:30pm…Music Over the Marsh Concert at the VIC w/ student Emily Dowd and Ray Lambiase, VIC, FREE.

7pm-11pm…Cosmic Bowling at Romanos in Saranac Lake…PSC Students will be free with student id. Sponsored by Student Engagement.

8pm-Telescope showing/viewing, Meet by Lake.
