New president greets visiting biathlon athletes

The US biathlon team visited Paul Smith’s College Wednesday and was greeted by Paul Smith’s College President Dr. Scott Dalrymple, who began work in the role this week.

Paul Smith’s has an agreement in place with US Biathlon to be the official sport and education training center and recently built a biathlon range on its 14,000-acre campus, the only college in the nation to house such a facility.\

Tim Burke, director of athlete development for US Biathlon, member of the college’s Olympic Advisory Committee and four-time Olympian, said he was impressed how quickly the college has advanced its initiative to support the spot.

“It is amazing how far and how fast that the college has come with this program,” he told college administrators as the Nordic athletes prepared for a canoe trip on Lower St. Regis Lake. “We are impressed and grateful. “

“When the Olympics are on TV, I tell people not to bother me,” added Dalrymple. “I love watching every minute of every event and I look forward to watching some of you this winter.”
