Applicant Information
Transfer Students
- A student who has matriculated to another institution and has attempted college level coursework
- A student who has completed 12 or more college credits and is applying for an Associate or Bachelor Degree program at Paul Smith’s College
Required materials for Application
- College transcript- an unofficial transcript can be submitted to complete your application. A final transcript will be required prior to registering for classes.
- All college transcripts must be submitted for every institution a student has attended, prior to receiving an Admissions decision.
All application materials can be sent via the Common Application or sent directly to the Admissions Office.
Exceptions to Transfer Admissions Requirements
If you meet any of the following scenarios, please submit the appropriate information:
- If a student applies during his/her first semester at another college, high school information will be used to make an admissions decision. High school information will be converted to a 4.0 scale and awarded the appropriate transfer merit scholarship- High School transcript required.
- If a student has attempted credits at the college level, he/she will be required to submit a high school transcript:
- If the student successfully withdrew from the courses, a high school transcript will be used, the GPA converted to a 4.0 scale and appropriate transfer merit scholarship awarded.
- If the student failed the courses, or failed to withdraw from the classes properly resulting in F’s on his/her transcript, high school information will be used to determine potential for success at PSC and the student will be considered for the for the transitional program. No scholarship will be awarded in this case.
Veteran Students
A Veteran Student is any student who has served or is currently serving in the United States Armed Forces. Veteran Student applications will be reviewed as non-traditional freshman or transfer students based on their academic history.

First Time Freshman
A First time Freshman is a student who:
- A student who will graduate from High School (regardless of college credits taken while in school)
- A GED recipient or is a student who has completed High School has not attended any other higher education institutions.
- A student who has not completed 12 or more college credits post-graduation, and is applying for an Associate or Bachelor Degree program at Paul Smith’s College
International Students
An International Student is a student who is not a U.S. citizen and is seeking to attend Paul Smith’s College.

- Graduate Regular Decision: Wednesday, April 16, 2025
Transfer Credit Evaluations
“How long will it take to complete my Paul Smith’s College degree?”
This is a common question for any student looking to transfer into Paul Smith’s College. Below you will find information regarding credit evaluations, the credits and grades we accept and your student status requirements when transferring in- i.e.: Sophomore, Junior, etc.
Credit Evaluation Information
Within 10 days of your acceptance, your Admissions Counselor will be in touch with you with a preliminary credit evaluation. This evaluation will provide an overview into your credit placement in your major of choice here at Paul Smith’s College.
Your evaluation will receive final credit approval from the Registrar’s office once your final transcripts are submitted prior to registering for classes.
Grades & Courses
Paul Smith’s College generally accepts 3 or 4 credit courses that have received a C- or better from other accredited Higher Education Institutions.
AP, IB, CPEP, CLEP and ACE courses are also accepted.

Registering for Classes
When transferring to Paul Smith’s College, you will be assigned an Academic Advisor who you will work with to set up your schedule.
- Fall Semester Students: you will meet with a faculty member during orientation to set up your schedule
- Spring Semester Students: you will be connected to your academic advisor via email to set up a time to work on your schedule prior to coming to campus.
Final Transcripts are required to be on file before registering for classes.
Incoming Student Status
When you receive your credit evaluation, the number of credits transferring in will determine your student status:
- First-year status- 0 to 29 credit hours
- Sophomore status- 30 to 59 credit hours
- Junior status- 60 to 89 credit hours
- Senior status- 90 or more credit hours
Financial Aid & Scholarships
Paul Smith’s College awards Merit Scholarships based on a students overall GPA and will be automatically awarded based on eligibility when reviewing their Admissions application.
State Grant programs are also available in select states to eligible students:

Higher Education Opportunity Program
The Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP) is a collaboration between the New York State Department of Education and Paul Smith’s College. HEOP provides a means for traditionally underserved, low-income students to obtain admission as well as academic and financial support.
