There’s a “ first-ever” happening at the VIC these days. As everyone knows, the 3,000 acre VIC is a phenomenal ecological, recreational, and educational resource available to faculty and students of PSC, and the general public. So the REALM (Recreation, Adventure Education, and Leisure Management) program has made a concerted effort to utilize the VIC as a classroom space, and starting this Fall, they put together a classroom where Environmental Education (REC 133) is now being taught. Instructor Brian McAllister is thrilled to have a class in the VIC where we can directly contact the visitors who come through the doors and offer them educational programming every Saturday morning from 10-11:30pm. Topics covered on the walks have varied from Survival Skills/Shelter-building; Birch Bark uses; Waterfowl Education and Bog Habitat. Offering these students a fun and meaningful class in the heart of a beautiful and natural classroom reflects the many facets of what PSC is all about, that’s right…it’s all about the Experience!
