As a fly fisherman, I have always eagerly anticipated the ice break up on local streams and rivers.  As a soon-to-be retiree, spring will come earlier this year.  I look for different signs that signal new starts and regrowth.

I composed this Haiku some years ago, and tied this fly to accompany it.  The composition is mostly silk and mallard feathers.

Spring Thaw

winter’s grip loosens

the river squirms free and leaps

lifting my spirits
