My friends and I decided watch a few ghost movies and TV shows that made us wonder if they were real or not. One day we were walking around the mall and headed into Hot Topic. As we checked out the stuff they had in the store we came across a Ouija board. Now we have seen this on TV before, but never believed it to be real. So we all talked about it for a minute to see if it was worth buying. John, who is one of our friends, grabbed the board and said “look, I will buy it, then we can really see if it works.” I asked where we were going to use it, to which John replied with “in my apartment.” He walked away and brought it to the front desk and paid for it. After walking around a bit more we decided to head home for the night. I looked to my boyfriend and asked if we were really going to play with that board. He shook his head yes and was eager to see what it would do. I felt a little uneasy about this but figured that we might as well give it a try. Soon we got a call from John and he asked us to come over and to bring a candle. We found a big candle and walked over to his apartment. They were already sitting on the ground around the board with the lights off and the candles lit. The board was glowing a green color and all the letters glowed.
We joined the circle and waited to see what was next. John picked up the instructions and started to read them to us.
“First we need a dark room and have to have a candle lit. Then have two people sit across from each other and with two fingers from each hand touching the eye, which is the triangle piece. Have the piece centered and make three small circles with it. After doing so you can begin to ask the spirits questions, but don’t let go of the piece as it moves. If you let the piece go then you will be breaking the connection between you and the spirit. The last thing you want to remember to do is say goodbye to the board.”
“Okay so let’s give it a try” I said.
My boyfriend and John were the first two to try it out. They made the circles and began to ask the board questions, but nothing happened. They tried again and this time they egged it on to respond, but still nothing. So my boyfriend decided we should try at the cemetery. I said that playing the game at a cemetery was a terrible idea, but the rest of the guys insisted we go. They said “we could figure out if it really works then.” So they started to load up in the car and John looked to me asking “are you coming?” Feeling like this was a bad idea, but not wanting to be alone I decided to go. I hopped in our Grand Marquis that has the back driver-side door permanently closed due to a past accident. I sat next to that door in the hope of being safe from whatever was about to happen. We drove down the road pulling into the first cemetery we came across. There was a large arch at the entry of the cemetery. We pulled in and drove down to the end of the path. The cemetery had an eerie feeling about it.
It was 2am and there was a slight fog that was a thick blanket right above the ground but only over some headstones. We chose a random spot under a tree by a few headstones. John put the car in park and we lit the candle as we began to open up the board. It was cold outside but warm in the car even after we turned it off. “So who wants to start?” I asked. Everyone was quiet and finally John and my boyfriend both said they would. They began to make the small circles and asked the board some questions. We all tried, but nothing happened.
It was now 3am and we were getting ready to leave, but decided to try one last time before we left. My boyfriend and I spun the eye three times then asked, “is anyone there?” There was no response so we asked, “does anyone want to talk with us before we leave?” The eye started moving and it spelled, “yes.” We all freaked out for a minute and questioned if it was really working. We asked, “are you a spirit?” It said, “no.” We asked, “are you a ghost?” It did not answer. We then asked to spell out its name. It began to move and spelled out demon. We asked, “how did you die?” It spelled out killed. We asked when did you die it spelled, “1850.” At this point we were shocked, although this was pretty cool. I looked around and noticed that the windows were all fogged up. The candle was flickering a lot and instead of having a small flame it had a tall flame. It was windy outside and there were twigs and small branches that had fallen on the car.
The eye started to move again even though we had not asked it a question. It started to spell out “lost” and we were confused. We asked, “were you lost when you got killed?” The board replied with, “yes.” We asked, “how did you get killed?” It spelled out “gun.” Suddenly it spelled out, “run.” We looked at each other confused and with concern. Before we could ask why it said “now!” There was a big gust of wind and a branch fell on the hood of the car. We heard scratching noises on the sides of the car and the candle went out.
We were sitting in complete darkness. I was scared and ready to go home. John got out and looked to see if there was any damage to the car. Luckily there was none, but it was enough to scare us to the point we all wanted to leave. We all got back in the car, reconnected with the eye, and said goodbye to the board. The eye moved and said, “no!” We looked at each other and asked it why. It spelled out death. We said goodbye to it again. The eye moved to no, But we just closed up the board and decided to leave. We drove down the road laughing about what had just happened. Suddenly things got weird again. The radio went static and we just figured we were in a dead zone. We changed the channel and nothing came back on so we just turned it off and continued talking. The windows opened and the doors locked all at the same time. We could not close the windows or unlock the doors at all, no matter what we did. I looked back at my friend and the door that was stuck closed suddenly flew open and John was hanging half out. My other friend Rick grabbed him and pulled him back in. My boyfriend, who was driving, tried to pull over and finally did. I got out of the car, was freaked out, looked at the bright light which happened to be a sign that said welcome to Jesus. I looked beyond the sign and there was a church. I was terrified at this point and never wanted to play with a Ouija board again. We burned the board right there at the church and drove away. We got home and everyone was still in shock and ready just to go to bed. This is one night we will never forget.
