September 2nd, 2016 – Friday evening before dusk, me and a few of my dorm family were fishing on Lower Saint Regis after catching a decent largemouth bass. I switched lures. I put on the infamous Whopper Plopper. One friend says, “That thing’s annoying.” I reply, “That’s the idea of the lure, and that means it’s doing it’s job.” After about 10 minutes using the Whopper Plopper, I started to retrieve it when suddenly – as I was mid sentence, I heard the explosion and was able to watch this “fun size” northern pike doing a somersault out of the water while grabbing my lure. After reeling in this decent little northern, I quickly took my hooks out of it’s mouth, got this quick photo, and I was sure to make a good release. The pike swam away like he’d never been caught in the first place.
